ALMDA Highlights Latest Release of NWS Infested Zones in Texas

The American Livestock Markets and Dealers Association (ALMDA) highlighting the announcement of the second release of the New World Screwworm (NWS) Infested Zones in designated areas of Uvalde, Bandera, and Medina Counties in Texas announced today. The release of these zones by the Texas Animal Health Commission and USDA/APHIS includes the only livestock market operating within an infestation zone.

“The release of this zone is very encouraging for livestock markets operating in this area. The additional required response activities have taken a toll and the lifting of this zone provides relief for these operators. We appreciate the work of USDA’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service and the Texas Animal Health Commission for their continued efforts in the response to this invasive pest. This is another step forward in the efforts to address this pest and we look forward to the release of future zones,” said Dale Sandlin, ALMDA Chief Executive Officer.

The Texas Animal Health Commission announced the release of these zones in Texas on September 16th. Livestock markets and dealers continue to remain engaged in the response efforts and we will continue to advocate for our members serving their customers and complying with required response activities.
