ALMDA & LMAT Encouraged By Second Release of NWS Infested Zones in Texas

The American Livestock Markets and Dealers Association (ALMDA) and the Livestock Marketing Association of Texas (LMAT) is encouraged by the announcement of the second release of the New World Screwworm (NWS) Infested Zones in designated areas of Uvalde, Zavala, Coke, and Tom Green Counties in Texas announced today. The release of these zones by the Texas Animal Health Commission and USDA/APHIS includes the first area of detection in Texas on June 3, 2026 and the furthest North infestation zone. 

“The release of these zones is further proof of the work that has been undertaken in responding to this pest has been successful. These releases provide relief for livestock markets and dealers accepting livestock from these areas and returns commerce in these areas back to normal. ALMDA and LMAT appreciates the work of USDA’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service and the Texas Animal Health Commission for their continued efforts in the response to this invasive pest and we remain hopeful that the remaining zones can be released in short order,” said Dale Sandlin, ALMDA Chief Executive Officer and LMAT Executive Director.

The Texas Animal Health Commission announced the release of these zones in Texas on September 3rd. Livestock markets and dealers continue to remain engaged in the response efforts and we will continue to advocate for our members serving their customers and complying with required response activities.
